OpenAI and Oracle: connect AI to operations without bypassing permissions

Bringing AI closer to the applications that hold orders, contracts, or procurement data can remove friction. For a Belgian or French organisation, the issue is not access alone: the user’s identity, existing permissions, and approval of each sensitive action must remain intact.

1. What OpenAI and Oracle announced

On October 27, OpenAI announced an expanded partnership with Oracle to bring Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT and power new Oracle offerings with its products and models. The companies describe an agent-ready environment with simpler administration, unified sign-in, and access governed by each organisation’s permissions and approvals. The announcement does not describe a ready-made Odoo integration or availability conditions for every application.

2. What this changes for organisations

For an SME, the first use case can remain advisory: retrieve authorised information and prepare a draft. For a mid-market company, large enterprise, or public administration, connecting to a management application should start with a map: which identity starts the agent, which data can it see, which tool can it use, and where is the evidence retained? A smooth connection must not turn an assistant into an indirect administrator account.

3. Underside analysis: authorisation must follow the action

Single sign-on alone does not prove that an agent is properly controlled. The useful policy links an identity, a data scope, a specific tool, and an authorised action. For higher-risk flows, separate read, proposal, and write; tie the request to a human owner and log the decision. Permissions need testing on denials, team changes, and access revocation—not only on the happy path.

4. The Odoo Enterprise case

Before connecting an assistant to Odoo Belgium, Odoo France, or Odoo Enterprise, retain business-system rules as the source of authority. A pilot can read an order status using a restricted service account, generate a proposal, then require approval before any creation or modification. Test cross-company isolation, discount thresholds, permission withdrawal, and recovery after interruption. These are Underside-recommended acceptance criteria, not features announced by OpenAI or Oracle.

5. A reversible, verifiable integration

Document connectors, permission sets, data categories, and evidence retention periods. Provide a switch that pauses write calls without erasing logs required for analysis. Finally, measure quality on representative business cases in French and English: a convincing answer does not compensate for excessive permission or stale data. This discipline makes automation usable regardless of supplier.

Operational recommendation: before granting agent access to a business application, approve an “identity × data × tool × action × approver” matrix and require both a revocation test and a write-stop test.
