AI content: verify provenance before the Odoo workflow
Plausible content is not evidence. Google has announced the worldwide English expansion of SynthID Detector, a service intended to help check whether an image, video or audio file was generated with AI. For an enterprise, the practical issue is turning that provenance signal into a process control before content enters Odoo Enterprise, a supplier record or an external communication.
1. Read the announcement within its scope
In its November 2 roundup, Google says that SynthID Detector is expanding globally in English. The tool covers AI-generated images, videos and audio, and Google also refers to content from partners. This describes a verification capability; it does not certify that a document is accurate, identify its author or establish a right to use it. Nor does it replace contractual, GDPR or sector-specific analysis.
2. Define the content that requires evidence
A Belgian or French team can start with content that carries a business consequence: campaign visuals, support recordings, customer-facing attachments, received evidence or media used to make a decision. Classify each type by impact: information, recommendation, approval or evidence. Higher-consequence content should retain its source, collection date, owner and provenance-check outcome.
3. Do not confuse detection with business validation
A detector provides an indication, not an automatic decision. Use a separate workflow status: provenance verified, provenance not established, check unavailable or content rejected. For Odoo Belgium, Odoo France or Odoo Enterprise, that status can accompany a file reference without by itself authorising an accounting entry, supplier creation or outgoing communication. A named person should be able to review exceptions and justify the decision.
4. Test the end-to-end flow
Build a test set with generated content, content with known provenance and content for which the check returns no result. Measure what is recorded, who can see the outcome, how an exception is approved and whether a file can be replaced after checking. Check exports, automations and connectors as well: a provenance label lost between two systems provides no usable assurance.
5. Retain proportionate evidence
The control record should link the content, its location, the verification outcome, the rule applied and the approver’s identity. Limit copies of sensitive media in logs and set a retention period. In a dispute, the organisation should be able to show its process without claiming that a provenance tool alone establishes the truth of the content.
Operational priority: choose one higher-risk media type, create four provenance statuses and demonstrate that no sensitive Odoo action proceeds without human review when the outcome is missing or ambiguous.
